After an Energy or Emotional Release Session: What to do next

Person writing in a journal on the beach

First things first, you showed up for yourself and that's freakin powerful!

You noticed something inside of you that wanted to shift, and you took a step to do something about it. That’s where healing/growth starts and continues to move from.

But I want to be honest with you…this isn’t a one-and-done. There’s no finish line where you’ll never get sad, never get nervous, or never feel 'off' again. Life just doesn’t work that way, and I'm not sure we'd want it to.

I know this sounds obvious, but it's the healing trap I was stuck in- I'm not 'healed' enough, or spiritual enough or intuitive enough because I'm still getting mad, anxious or just straight up pissed off.

The goal shouldn't be to never feel a "negative" emotion again... this work is about learning how to move through those feelings with more awareness and care. To be able to feel angry or sad and still know how to come back to yourself without sitting in it for weeks or months or even years. And to not have these emotions dictate your life, to not be living from a place of anger, fear, resentment, etc.

You’re not failing because you get mad or cry, and you're not broken because you feel anxious at times, or tired and burnt out.

This is all part of the human experience.

This work is about learning to reconnect with your body so that you can notice what you're feeling, and use those feelings to your advantage, then shift to 'balance' a bit quicker.

All that to say, don’t be hard on yourself, you're doing great!

After a Session

When you finish a session, whether it’s Reiki, Breathwork, or the Emotion Code®, your body and energy are still adjusting. Emotions might come up, you might feel kind of “off", or you may feel better than you have before....Take it all in (neither one is right or wrong).

Here are a few simple things you can do to support yourself:

1. Take Time to Reflect

Try to give yourself a few quiet minutes to check-in.

Ask yourself:

  • What was I hoping to get out of this session?

  • How did I feel during the session?

  • Where did I feel lighter, or where did I feel stuck?

You don’t have to make sense of it all right away, just write down whatever comes through. It could be a few sentences or just some words that describe how you feel.

If you want a little help getting started, I have free journal prompts on my website.

2. Drink Water

This one’s easy but important. Drink water.

When you do energy work, things get moving, physically and emotionally. Staying hydrated helps your body release and reset. Think of it like flushing out the stuff that's no longer needed.

Tea, lemon water, or even just a big glass of cold water is a great way to re-hydrate.

3. Rest and Ground

You might feel light and clear, or you might feel tired and emotional. Both are totally okay. Your body’s just finding its balance.

If you can, give yourself space to rest, even if it’s just a quiet walk outside, laying down for a bit, or doing something calming like stretching or journaling.

Let your system catch up, and don't judge any of it, allow this to be a practice around listening in to what you're body, mind, and spirit need.

4. Reach Out if You Need To

Sometimes sessions bring up deeper emotions or things you weren’t expecting. You don’t have to go through it alone.

Reach out to someone.... call a friend, talk to your coach or counselor, or connect with someone who understands and can listen and support. Sometimes just being heard helps everything settle.

You can call 211 for local resources, including mental help support, or 988 for immediate support and guidance.

5. Notice What’s Changing

Over the next few days, keep checking in.

What’s coming up emotionally or mentally? What’s feeling different in your body? Are certain thoughts or memories repeating?

You don’t have to do anything with that information, just notice it. This is how your body and energy talk to you. The more you listen, the better you’ll understand what it needs.

Remember

This isn’t about becoming a new person. It’s about coming home to who you already are.... again and again.

So, keep it simple: drink your water, rest when you can, and be gentle with yourself. You don’t need to rush anything or figure it all out. You just need to keep showing up, one step at a time.

You’re doing beautiful work, even on the days that don’t feel like it.
